The history of the Institute of Departmental Science takes its beginningon June 8, 1963, when by the Order of the Ministry of Public Order Defense of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic No 0208 the Research Department of the Higher School of the Ministry of Public Order Defense of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic as created and the fundamental criminal investigations actual problems of combating crime started. Taking intoaccount the actuality and practical significance of the unit for law enforcement activities, by the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR dated August 24, 1971 No 0516, Kyiv Research Laboratory of the All-Union Research Institute MIA USSR was founded. The fundamental research aimed at solving of the issues of combating crime has formed the basis for the foundation by the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR dated January 6, 1978 No 026 the Kyiv branch of the All-Union Research Institute MIA USSR, which became the leading criminological institution of the USSR, having created the program "ASORZ" – automated system of distribution of convicts. In 1985, the institution was liquidated and the research laboratory of the Kyiv High School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR was founded, the main task of which wasthe improvement of the organization of preventive activities of law enforcement officers. With the Ukrainian sovereignty in 1992, laboratory was transformed into the Ukrainian Research Center of the Academy of Internal Affairs, and by the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine dated January 10, 1997 No 8, the Research Institute of the Problemsof the Fight against Crime of the National Academy of Internal Affairs, which according to the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine dated March 4, 1997 No. 151 was recognized as the main research institution in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The scientific and technical component of the Institute takes its origins from the foundationby the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR dated June 25, 1991 No 200the Ukrainian branch of the Research Institute of Special Equipment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR. In the independent Ukraine, by the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs dated January 20, 1992 No. 21, on the basis of the previous institution, the StateEngineering Center "Special Engineering" of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (on the rights of a research institution) was founded, to which by theOrderof the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine dated March 23, 1996 No 189, experimental manufacturehas been affiliated. To ensure a unified policy in the field of the development of special-purpose equipment and the basic principles of its applicationby the Decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated August 19, 2002 No 1205 the Research Institute of SpecialTechnique of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukrainewas founded. In order to carry out scientific, scientific and technical support of the activity of the system of bodies of internal affairs of Ukraine,in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated September 8, 2005 No 880 "About the Reorganization of Higher Educational and Research Institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs"and the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine datedSeptember 27, 2005 No 827, on the basis of the Research Institute of Special Technique of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the State Research Center of Road Safety and the Activities of the Traffic Police, the Research Institute of Combating Crime of the National Academy of Internal Affairs, the State Research Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine was formed. The Institute consists of 11 subdivisions of scientific, scientific-technical and scientific-methodological direction. The scientific potential is constituted of 18doctors of sciences, 50 candidates of sciences, 15 professors, 7 associate professors and 16 senior research assistants.
